Expat Adjustment Survey

Contributed by Angelica Manrique, 29 June, 2016

Dear Expatriate

Thank you very much in advance for your participation in this important survey.

My name is Angélica Manrique and I am a student at the University of Paderborn. As part of my Bachelor’s thesis, I am conducting a study, which deals with the effect that cultural distance may have on the adjustment of expatriates.

An international assignment is more than just a change of job. Expatriates must adapt to various events in the host country and deal with various cultural differences, which influence the adaptation to the host country. Factors such as labor and health conditions affect this complex process. Understanding this process can help expatriates to learn about their situation, as well as to show companies, how and in which areas they can support their employees.

To be able to carry out my study I need your help. You only need to fill out this questionnaire and forward a link with a questionnaire to your life partner (if applicable) and another one to your supervisor. These links are on the last page of this questionnaire.

Since I know you must be a busy person, I made this survey short. It should take approx. 15 minutes of your time.

Of course, you will receive, if desired, a report with the results of this study.

We will take all efforts to protect your identity and keep the information confidential. We will evaluate the data without name and address. Please, find more information regarding data protection on the last page of this questionnaire.

Please answer the questions as honestly and carefully as possible. However, do not take too much time answering the questions. There is no "right" or "false" answer.
