Qatar is counted among one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Despite its small size, the surrounding neighbor countries heavily rely on Qatar's hydrocarbon resources. Traditionally a petrochemical country, Qatar's economic growth has been tremendous in the last few decades. The credit for this improvement can be given to the various government initiatives to diversify the country's economy undertaken by the Qatari government. Thus, more employment avenues have opened up for professionals from across the industries.

If you are contemplating a move to Qatar, you must first invest some time in analyzing the employment scenario of the industry you wish to join. To help you with your research, here is a list of some of the sectors offering great employment prospects:

1. Petrochemical Sector:

In 2015, Qatar earned approximately US$ 8 billion from its chemical manufacturing sector and the industry was forecasted to grow at the rate of 6% annually for the next five years. Though there are many competing countries entering the international export market, Qatar is still a key exporter. Qatar is home to some of the biggest petrochemical, and oil & gas companies such as the Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (QJSC), Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd (QAFAC), Qatar Chemical Company Ltd (Q-Chem), Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), etc., providing great employment opportunities to engineers across various cities such as Doha, Al Khor, Dukhan, etc.

2. Healthcare Sector:

According to the GCC Healthcare Industry Report 2016 published by Alpen Capital, the Qatari healthcare market is expected to reach US$ 8.8 billion by 2020. The major reason behind this is that the nation's population of older and ill people struggling with expensive illnesses is increasing at a fast rate. Thus, the demand for hospital care is also expected to go up over the next few years. The same report also suggests that the requirement for hospital beds in the country will reach 3,300 by the year 2020. Thus, the demand for healthcare professionals such as doctors, registered nurses, lab technicians, etc., will also go up. For those who are associated with the medical field or are interested in joining the same, this is the right time to join Qatar's healthcare sector as the country is making huge investments in building more medical facilities.

3. Construction Sector:

In the recent years, the construction industry of Qatar has emerged as an important sector. The Qatari government has been making deliberate attempts to improve the overall infrastructure of the country by investing in the construction of healthcare facilities, tourist spots, as well as modern transportation facilities such as metro rail. The Qatar's Public Works Authority is also investing huge sum of money in a number of projects, including the construction of expressways, public roads, schools, etc. Hence, the job opportunities have also increased for professionals in the construction sector. If you are thinking of moving to Qatar for work, do consider the job prospects being offered by this industry.

4. Hospitality Sector:

After winning the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, one of the biggest single-event sporting competitions in the world, the demand for highly skilled and talented professionals has tremendously increased in almost all the sectors, particularly Hospitality and Tourism. For many years, Qatar has been considered as a secluded country with very few places of tourist interest. Being the host of the sporting event, the country is making earnest efforts to establish itself as a tourist destination. Qatar has some of the most beautiful beaches, world-class golf courses as well as offers great watersports facilities. The requirement for hotel rooms have also increased and the construction of hotels by many big international hospitality brands is already underway. Thus, the demand for hospitality professionals is huge in Qatar.

With so much progress happening in the country, it wouldn't be wrong to say that Qatar is indeed a land of opportunities.
