[16th June 2016]  Bupa Global and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) announced in 2014 that they were teaming up to give customers access to the largest network of health care providers worldwide. As the next phase of this global partnership, they have launched their first jointly branded range of tiered international private medical insurance (IPMI) products in France.

The new global health plans will be jointly branded Blue Cross Blue Shield Global and Bupa Global, as will the corporate portfolio soon.  The five products called - Select, Premier, Elite, Ultimate and Major Medical - are tiered on coverage and price, based on the findings from an extensive international customer insight exercise.  The products are specifically designed to meet the needs of globally-minded and globally-mobile customers and offer even bigger benefits.

Dean Pollard, General Manager, Bupa Global Rest of World said: "We carried out extensive, international customer research – over 12 months.  Customers told us they want a simple product, where the levels of coverage and price are tiered so it's easy to choose the option they want or need, based on a clear and distinct range and scale, without the complication of add ons.  We listened and we are delighted to officially bring the most innovative range of premium IPMI products to the French market."

This launch forms part of a joint commitment from Bupa Global and BCBSA, to deliver high quality health care products and services and highlights the global reach of this partnership. This combined strength, knowledge and expertise means customers can be confident in knowing that they have access to quality health care when and where they need it.

"The coming together of the Bupa Global and Blue Cross Blue Shield names, means consumers who require global coverage can now have access to the largest network of health care providers worldwide,"said Maureen Sullivan, senior vice president and chief strategy officer of BCBSA. "We are very excited to be jointly launching these products, which enables us to reinforce the value of the partnership and its benefit to our customers."

The new IPMI products are packaged based on customer feedback and offer benefits that promote consumers' all-round health.  Across all of the global health plans, they will cover:

  • In hospital and out-patient care*
  • Health checks* – helping to prevent as much as cure
  • Mental and holistic therapies* – caring for mind as well as body
  • Evacuation – if emergency treatment isn't available locally, we'll transport the customer and one other person to where it is
  • Treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses, for as long as needed while you are a Bupa customer
