Finding the right place to live in Cyprus depends on many factors. There are practical considerations such as accommodation prices, cost of living and availability of amenities. Then there are emotional criteria, such as the desirability of a place – whether what you desire is happiness, safety, friendly locals or an active social life.
Nicosia, although it is the capital, has the Green Line running through it, so it is not untroubled. Nevertheless, though it has been at times uneasy, there has been peace for several decades. Nicosia is the financial centre of the country and has the most jobs available, especially in fields such as business and finance.
Of course, if taking advantage of the beaches is what you want, Nicosia is not the best option. In Cyprus, the climate is a big draw for expats, especially the elderly. With more than 300 sunny days a year, little rain and mild winters, it is pretty much ideal. This makes the coastal cities are especially attractive.
In these cities, jobs are easiest to find in tourism and ancillary industries such as catering. The second largest city on the island is Limassol, which is also the largest port. As it is also an important commercial centre and has fine beaches, Limassol can be said to have a bit of everything. It also has the Cyprus University of Technology. There are high numbers of expats in Limassol.
Ayia Napa and the nearby less famous town of Protoras are full of tourists in summer. Of course, that might be just what you are looking for, if you want to find a job that caters to them.
