Expat Information: Immigration

According to the UN's global migration statistics, 232 million people, or 3.2 per cent of the world’s population, were international migrants in 2013, compared with 175 million in 2000 and 154 million in 1990. The United States is the most popular destination, accounting for almost 20% of the total number of worldwide immigrants, though the United Arab Emirates is the most notable in terms of immigrants as a percentage of national population, with over 80% of the country's population being accounted for by people who were born overseas.
