Antigua and Barbuda plans to open a Citizenship by Investment Unit, prime minister Baldwin Spencer said during a sitting of the House of Representatives on August 28.

The prime minister said that Don Myatt, from Canada, will head the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU). Mr Myatt is said to have over 30 years of experience in the area of Foreign Service. The Prime Minister also said that the Unit will be housed on the third floor of the ABI Financial Center. Mr Myatt will be supported in the Unit by an operations compliance officer, project development officer, financial controller, compliance officer, operations clerk and secretary.

The House of Representatives debated seven bills during last week's sitting. The bills under discussion included the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act, which seeks to amend the Personal Income Tax Act of 2005 with a view to clarifying the type of income of an individual which is exempted from the payment of tax.
