New UK Visa Application Centres Open In Australia

New UK visa application centers (VACs) are opening in several cities across Australia in March, offering speedier processing times, a personalized experience, and a new priority visa service.

The new VACs are to be based in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth. They are to be run by VFS Global, a company which already delivers UK visa services in most Asian-Pacific countries.

The visa assessment process will continue to take place at the UK visas and immigration hub in Manila, the Philippines. The Government says that faster transit times to the visa hub from Australia will reduce processing times by two days. The priority visa service will allow applicants to obtain a visa within three to five days, rather than the usual three weeks.

According to the UK Government, in most countries the VACs are located in only one or two major cities, but Australia has more because of its size. However, VACs in Brisbane, Canberra, and Perth will charge an additional fee of AUD112 (USD102), and those in Canberra and Perth will be open only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

There is also a facility in Adelaide, where Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship is acting as a biometric data collection agency. This will remain in operation, although staff there cannot answer visa queries.
