Spain To Push For Deal With UK For British, Spanish Expats

The Government in Spain has expressed its support for a deal for British expats to remain in the country after the UK leaves the European Union.

Jorge Toledo, who is expected to be Spain's lead negotiator in Brexit talks, told The Times that Spain is "in favor of retaining a reciprocal agreement on questions like healthcare and freedom of movement," with a deal that includes "the amplest respect of these rights in the future..."

Toledo's comments echo those of the Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, who told AFP in mid-February that the Government would seek to ensure that nothing changes for the more than one million British people living temporarily or permanently in Spain, providing a reciprocal deal is also reached for Spaniards in the UK.
